The second day of my Berlin trip we had to go up early. We went to the Hackescher Markt. From here a guide showed us some places in Berlin. We went to some hotspots and interesting places. The guide told us a lot of information about the city. He was really excited as he talked about Berlin. The tour ended at the famous Brandenburger Tor. Which is really busy because all of the tourist. After shooting some pictures we went to a restaurant to have some lunch. When we finished our meals the group separated in smaller groups. At first I went to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. A very big monument that made a lot of impression.
As we walked back to the Brandenburger Tor we decided to make a detour through the Tiergarten. The park gives you a feeling you’re are leaving the busy and noisy city for a few minutes. A dog is running towards his owner while another man is eating his sandwich on a park bench. Sometimes you can see some little yellow flowers trough the grass. Meanwhile some hobos lay down on benches or are walking with giant supermarket bags which gives a
different view of the park.
As we walked out of the park we came past the Soviet War Memorial and walk straight back to the Brandenburger Tor. We were going to the station to go to Alexanderplatz. Where I got myself a muffin from Dunkin Donuts. My new favourite place in the world, because I love donuts and we don’t have something alike in The Netherlands. From here we walk to the Museuminsel or Museumisland. First we visit the Berliner Dom which I think is one of the most beautiful buildings in Berlin. In the Second World War the church got really damaged, but the reconstruction finished in 1992. You can visit the church for about five euros. Next to the Berliner Dom there’s the Altes Museum which has also a nice outside with all the pillars around the building. Around these two buildings there are a lot of other museum you can visit like the DDR-Museum or the German Historical Museum.
For my school project I’m writing a story about the punk culture in Berlin. So I also visited the Ramones Museum which is a small, but very nice place for everyone who loves music. An interview with the owner is coming soon to my blog.
To finish this day for me, some friends decided to eat at a restaurant in Friedrichshain. We wanted to eat something different so we went to a cute little place called Transit. It works the same way like eating tapas but then it’s Asian food. You order small dishes so you can try a lot of different things. After dinner we went to our room. Berlin is not only really beautiful and interesting but also very tiring.
